Introducing the Awesome Women of Power Rangers ficathon-- celebrating the awesome ladies of Power Rangers. (Many thanks to artsy_chef for the banner!)
Full details are available on the AO3 site. This ficathon is for stories about our favorite women (or characters referred to by female pronouns) from Power Rangers, including supporting characters and villains. I don't promise I have everyone, so if you want someone who's a minor character, please check the tag set to be sure that she's in there! If she's not, please leave a comment or PM me and I'll add her.
Stories must be at least 750 words. Sign ups open April 18 and close May 2. Assignments will go out that weekend, and stories are due July 6 (AKA the end of a long weekend in the US).

OK, let's get this on the actual discussion/news community and this time with prior permission from the mods:
I don't know how many of you are following Dan Ewing on Twitter, but apparently his wife had a miscarriage. As if that weren't bad enough, one of the Australian tabloids (I'm not justifying their existence by naming names, but Dan is on his twitter) has posted a horrible story about Marni (his wife) today.

So here's the thing: I'd like to do something. I obviously suck at organizing fannish auctions as the last one I volunteered to help with never happened, but that seems like a good option.

Also picking a charity is tough. They're Australian. Is March of Dimes international? (Do they even deal with miscarriages or just birth defects. Though most miscarriages are actually because the fetus isn't viable.) Can someone suggest a better one?

I'm willing to put in work, but I'm not sure of the how. Does anyone have ideas or have experience with fannish auctions and want to help?

Because Ranger Fandom isn't as cohesive in these sorts of things as I feel we should be. (I mean, if it were AJJ or Mrs. JDF maybe.) And I just...

We can't all go give them hugs (and it would creep them out more than help them), but maybe we can do something so that people don't have to go through what they're going through right now, even without the Aussie Tabloid.

Alternately, I might research a charity and set up a just giving page, would folks be interested in that? Brain storming is much appreciated.

Update: The Ewings have requested donations to the St. Thomas hospital in London, and said hospital has a relationship with ukvirgingiving, which is like justgiving. It would be easy enough to set up a page. Would people be interested in either doing this directly or participating (and again, HELPING ME ORGANIZE) a fanworks auction?

There's a new all-fandom, all-fanworks challenge called Tag Frenzy. The purpose is to nominate and vote for your favorite underused tags on AO3, and then create fanworks for them!

There's no time limit, no length requirements, no limits on ratings or pairings or anything else. You can nominate and vote and not create fanworks, so if there's that one tag that you've been burning to see used more often, feel free to nominate it!

Power Rangers Trope Bingo is a new challenge focusing on tropes special to Power Rangers fandom (e.g. "Colour Reunion"), and welcomes all kinds of fanworks! A non-bingo participation option also exists. You can find the rules here, and the tropes here.

gDocs table of all Ranger powers and relates features to date, as prepared by sailorsol and myself. Including animal companions, secondary powers, battlized states and - where relevant - formal command order.

The table is filterable by... pretty much any attribute. Some choices regarding terminology were made with that in mind.

The filterability was one of our primary motivations in preparing this - all this information is available elsewhere, but the table view has its uses. (Secondary animals! They're fascinating.)

Shout! Factory has signed a multiyear agreement to distribute several Saban Brands properties, including episodes from the “Power Rangers” franchise.

The deal gives Shout! Factory exclusive DVD, Blu-ray and select digital rights to more than 700 episodes of the various “Power Rangers” shows that ran between 1993 and 2009, as well as 92 episodes of “VR Troopers” (1994-96), 26 episodes of “Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation” (1997-98) and 88 episodes of “Beetleborgs” (1996-98). The agreement does not extend to the 'Power Rangers' theatrical movies.
